Our Temporary Home
|
|
For 2 Sundays in January we moved our services to Deakin University, while the YWAM Sanctuary was refurbished for our new look. Lecture Theatre 3 is a lovely venue, complete with huge screens and theatre style seating.
Many people found their way to Deakin, despite numerous people who either missed the news or couldn’t locate the temporary venue. Gaik, Oslo and Raylene Ong were not the only ones to turn up at YWAM on January 21, only to find the service was held elsewhere. They did manage to find us the following Sunday.
Darren and a team of ushers had to be posted around the Uni campus to direct cars to the right parking spots and then direct people to the venue.
Worship was provided without the full complement of instruments, so Stanley, Sidney and Ivan used their guitars to excellent effect. The acoustics worked well and many people commented on the sweetness of the worship.
Sound and vision was controlled by desks right at the front, so everyone could watch the operators for the first time. Normally this is done from the back, so it doesn’t distract anyone. The huge screens made the new look announcements work well, creating a real “theatre” style experience. Meanwhile Sonja ran a simplified FGA Kids program, including some great videos.
Chris Field and Peggy had the privilege of preaching in the temporary venue and both found it worked well. Peggy commented that it took her back to her Uni lecturing days. Despite the absence of tea, coffee and meals, many people stayed on for animated fellowship. It’s great to see the keen interaction enjoyed by you all.
