With “Discipling 1,000” as our bold objective for the coming years Pastor YC has supervised the creation of a new Discipleship initiative called “Life Journey”. The aim of the Life Journey program is to provide on-going foundational input that ensures all our members are ready to be part of what God is doing among us.
Four terms of study have been developed, covering the basics of our faith, issues of church life, character development and preparation for leadership. These terms are called Tracks and are best if worked through consecutively, although people may start on Track 2 and pick up Track 1 later.
Pastor YC and Nelson Deshotels have each developed one of the first two Tracks, with various guest presenters sharing the teaching load. Over the years we have experimented with providing Christian Education courses at various times during the week. Consistently people find it easier to attend before or after a church service. For this reason the Life Journey program is initially offered during our first and second services on Sundays. This way people can attend the discipling program before or after church.
For the first half of the year only Tracks 1 & 2 are being offered, to build up a base of people ready to move on. Track 3 will launch in term 3 and then Track 4 in the final term of the year. Next year all four Tracks will be available all year, some by video or audio presentation. It is wonderful to see many people eagerly and faithfully attending the sessions and to know that the base of maturity and Christian understanding at FGAM is being built up. Feedback from students indicates that they find it rewarding to clarify key Bible themes and to tune in to how we function and how God is leading us as a congregation. Additional short courses will run during the school holidays, providing additional learning opportunities for you. From March 25 a short course preparing people for Missions will be taught by Raymond Seow and a short course on Family will be taught by Pastor Chris Field.
